Liverpool closing in on signing French star

Liverpool Makes Progress on Deal With Monaco for Thomas Lemar.

Liverpool are close to securing a deal for Monaco and France international midfielder Thomas Lemar, according to French reports.

The report claims that “over the past few weeks,” the Merseyside club have made some “good moves” for the 22-year-old, and that an “agreement in principle” is close to being completed.

With Monaco understood to be willing to let Lemar leave in the summer, Liverpool “aren’t far away from having done most of the work” in regards to securing his signature. Liverpool lost Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in January and were subsequently linked with a host of possible replacements which included Lemar.

Lemar first caught Liverpool’s eye in the summer after he bagged 14 goals and provided 14 assists as Monaco won the Ligue 1 title and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. The Reds’ sporting director Michael Edwards subsequently held talks with the club in August but they were unable to agree on a fee and the deal broke down.

Liverpool could come back with a fresh approach in the summer transfer window 2018.

PSG make Chelsea star their top priority

Paris Saint-Germain have made N’Golo Kante one of their top summer targets.

PSG are looking to replace 35-year-old veteran midfielder Thiago Motta this summer.

Monaco’s versatile Brazilian Fabinho is also on the Ligue 1 giants’ radar but, according to French transfer reports, France international Kante is their first choice replacement. However, it is highly unlikely Chelsea will allow one of their most key players to leave Stamford Bridge.

Kante has quickly become a vital midfield steel in Antonio Conte’s team since his arrival from Leicester City in 2016 for £30 million. The 26-year-old, who won back-to-back Premier League titles with Leicester and Chelsea, has a contract with the Blues that runs until 2021.

PSG, though, have the financial backing to table a big bid for the midfield dynamo.

Lemar open to summer move

Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in Lemar

Monaco’s midfielder Thomas Lemar has admitted that he was extremely disappointed when his move to either Arsenal or Liverpool failed last summer. He hopes that they come again for him and is open to offers this summer.

Lemar, 22, has been linked with a big move to the Premier League for the past two transfer windows, following a successful season last year at Monaco, which culminated with the Ligue 1 win and a Champions League semifinal. But Monaco rejected every offer for him as they wanted keep hold of him after losing star players like Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy in the same transfer window.

“Regrets? Maybe. I was a little disappointed,” he told Telefoot. “Once it’s over, it’s over, so do not think about it.

“I will keep working hard so these clubs will eventually come back in the next transfer window. I am open to all offers. I am a football player, I like football. I do not close any door.”

Monaco are 17 points behind leaders PSG this season, and Lemar has only managed two goals from 22 appearances so far.

Lemar is also fighting hard for a place in the France National squad so he could be a part in the Football World Cup this year in Russia.
